Exit & Re-entry Permits
Leaving Indonesia? Don’t Forget Your Exit Permit.
What Are EPO & ERP?
When you hold a temporary stay permit (KITAS) in Indonesia, it’s not enough to simply pack and leave. To exit the country legally — or to return later without trouble — you need to understand two important immigration processes: EPO (Exit Permit Only) and ERP (Exit Re-entry Permit).
These permits ensure your departure and re-entry are officially recorded, avoiding issues with immigration records and future visa applications.
Exit Permit Only (EPO)
An official clearance is required before you leave Indonesia in the following situations:
You are leaving Indonesia permanently
You plan to change your employer
You want to convert your KITAS type (e.g., from Working to Retirement KITAS)
Why it’s important:
EPO ensures that your current visa and work permit are formally canceled in immigration records. Failing to do this can block future re-entry or new visa applications.
Exit Re-entry Permit (ERP)
A special clearance is needed after leaving Indonesia without processing an EPO.
Required if you left Indonesia abruptly without submitting EPO documents
Must be completed if you plan to re-enter Indonesia again
Prevents rejection or questioning at the airport on return
Why it’s important:
Without ERP, re-entry may be denied, and you might face delays or penalties at immigration.
When Do You Need an EPO?
Leaving Indonesia permanently
Changing your Indonesian employer
Switching your visa type
Even if your KITAS is still valid, skipping this step may cause immigration problems on your return.
How to Apply for an Exit Permit (EPO)
The EPO process is simple but time-sensitive. Once approved, you must leave Indonesia within 5 days.
Required Documents:
- Original Passport
- Copy of your exit flight
- IMTA & DPKK proof (if applicable)
- Company or Spouse KITAS sponsor documents
Processing Time:
3–5 working days
⚠️Important: You must exit within 5 days after getting the EPO stamp.

- Original passport

Visa Process & Key Questions
What happens if I leave Indonesia without an EPO?
You’ll need to apply for an ERP (Exit Re-entry Permit) to return. Not doing so can cause entry problems.
How long does EPO processing take?
It usually takes 3–5 working days. After it's issued, you must leave Indonesia within 5 days.
Can I re-enter Indonesia without an ERP?
No. If you left without an EPO, you must process an ERP first, or risk being denied entry.
Is EPO required for all KITAS holders?
Yes. Whether you're sponsored by a company or spouse, an EPO is mandatory when ending your KITAS.
